  • Weifang International Kite FestivalWeifang International Kite Festival - In kite capital Weifang, over 500 years of tradition make this festival a spectacular event that draws kite enthusiasts from all over the world. Legend has it that kites were actually invented in China 2,000 years ago and introduced to the West by Marco Polo.
    Weifang is one of three main schools in China for kite making and has hosted an international festival since 1984. The International Kites Federation is based here too. The emphasis today is on originality and display. The artistry of the kite craftspeople draws on rich folk traditions, further complemented by performances of local song and dance.

    For non-enthusiasts, the festival is a spectacle that fills the sky above with multicoloured, diversely decorated kites of all types and sizes. Brush up on your knowledge at the Kite Museum and dont miss the Opening Parade, when the first kites take to the air. International and domestic competitions add to the atmosphere. This is a great chance to see a little-visited part of Shangdong, where the people pride themselves on their hospitality.
